Drawn December 15, 2004
On Wednesday evening, Dec. 15, 2004, the Savannah River Cancer Foundation organization gathered at the Cancer Care Institute
of Carolina for a holiday celebration of thanks to dedicated volunteers and health care professionals who have helped
the organization in its infancy.
The highlight of the evening was the drawing for a $5,000 gallery painting by cancer survivor and professional
artist Tom Talbot.
Talbot, who has called Aiken his home for 5 1/2 years, said his painting, which was named "The Journey," related to the
light and shadows of his own struggle with cancer.
"I had just been through chemotherapy," Talbot said while looking at the work, which depicts a dirt road running through
a country scene.
Aiken resident Retta Cameron was drawn as the winner of the work, which was framed by Southside
Gallery.
Suzanne Messick, a spokesperson for the cancer foundation, said a total of $3,000 in raffle tickets were sold for the work.
The money will be put back into aid programs for cancer patients.
Congratulations Retta Cameron !
