The Savannah River Cancer Foundation is a locally created and sponsored, non-profit organization.
Established in 2003, the Foundation operates from monies received through donations and fund raisers. The Foundation is not part of a national organization, therefore all monies received stay here, and are
used to aid cancer patients in the community. The Foundation is guided
by a board of directors, who have all either had cancer or have been closely affected by cancer.
The mission of the Savannah River Cancer Foundation is to
provide education, emotional support, and economic support to cancer patients. Some examples of patient / public education is through distribution of Patient Record Books, information
pamphlets, and the calendar.
Emotional support is provided by CanHope.
CanHope stands for Cancer survivors Helping others through positive encouragement.
The group is comprised of adult male and female survivors and those that have
been closely touched by cancer. Their mission is to provide a
source of support, education, understanding and hope to anyone dealing with cancer.
Financial support is available to cancer patients that meet designated
criteria. Assistance is provided to obtain certain medications,
medical support equipment and transportation to treatments.
The Foundation offers assistance to cancer
patients of any age, with any type of cancer being treated at any facility. The
only criteria is that the patient live in Aiken, Edgefield, Barnwell or Allendale county.
